Once again, for the third year, we had  a great group of bloggers for the conference in Maria, Maru, Mike, Isabel (transmitting from Miami - we missed you Isabel), and Guy. Thanks to all for all they did in Atlanta with their superior bi-focal vision - one eye on the proceedings and one eye on bringing you the latest of what was happening at the conference.

Also, a special thanks goes to Judi Gaitens, a Chapter Coordinator from North Carolina, for her willingness to undergo (?) my video interviews and thereby contribute to the blog - you're a natural Judi-thanks.

The Circle of Service is Contemplative Outreach's new approach of "contemplative governance" that was piloted during 2008-2010. At the conference on Sunday morning Ron Barnett presented on behalf of the Circle of Service a description of this approach in contrast to a "corporate" approach, its historical development and the results of the voting members recent adoption of it. Everyone knows that RHB really stands for Resource Hand Book, but poof its gone!  From now on all Coordinators and Contact persons will be able to access the RHB on line by entering their username and password.  Within the PDF copy of the RHB there will be current links to just about every other document you will ever need.  Go to the website “Arts and Resources” tab and then hit “Leadership Resources” from  the menu on the left and you will find everything there.  All of the links that are within the RHB are also nicely collated on this page so that you can go straight to just what you need.  Facilitators, Presenters and others will be allowed specific access to fined the documents that they need from this page also.  Now you can dig into the website to get the pages you want for your team, right click and paste them right into an email and zip off they go, just to the people that need them.  Now if you really enjoyed that old heavy Clunker in printed form you can have Kinko’s print it out and punch the holes for about $5.00 in black and white, but it will be out dated the day you print it, because the team that has so tirelessly put this together plans to continue to keep updating all these files regularly.  And we used to pay for this paper nightmare privilege?

This  morning, Bonnie Shimizu presented the new guidelines for Contemplative Outreach Service.  She reminded us that as presenters we are "handing on the gift of Centering Prayer", to use a phrase from Fr. Basil Pennington.  An information packet will be made available to those interested in becoming a Centering Prayer presenter. Rather than just being handed a document, you will now have someone who will explain the commissioning process to you.

Bonnie told us that the Refined Essentials have a depth of information.  Based on a survey of presenters and chapter leadership, it was learned that there is often not enough time in a workshop to cover everything in the Refined Essentials without overloading the participants with information. In a 2-year discernment process, a special review team headed by Fr. Thomas discerned that Conferences 1 and 4 were essentially "bookends" to Conferences 2 and 3, which are the heart of the workshop, and that Conferences 1 and 4 could be shortened, if this is appropriate based on the needs of those in attendance, time available, etc. The shortened versions are being added to Refined Essentials as an alternative way to present the workshop - to  make it both flexible and effective - so that the workshop can be adapted to any audience.

The moratorium of the Formation for Contemplative Outreach Service is over and new formations with this new alternative way of presentation are being offered.

Greetings!  My name is Mike Potter and I am one of the contributers to the CO2010 Blog.  I currently serve on the Resource Faculty as Team Leader of the Lectio Divina Service Team.

We had a wonderful opening session last night.  Fr. Thomas was present via video to share his thoughts on the conference theme (watch the video that Ron posted last night).  Fr. Carl had us all stand as he led us through a body movement of the cross: Wake Up! . . to the Length <-->, breadth -><-, depth v v, and height ^ ^ of LIFE <<-->>, as we die to the false self and awaken to our true self. Very inspiring!

I'm looking forward to Bonne Shimizu's presentation this morning on the new guidelines for Contemplative Outreach Service.
